Hunter Prostate Cancer awareness & Support group

Our Mission

The Group aims to provide support to the patients, families and carers of men diagnosed with prostate cancer via monthly meetings, personal contact, and social activities that promote a sense of cohesion and well-being

aims & objective

It also seeks to provide relevant education and awareness through credible and up-to-date medical information relative to the member’s condition by diagnosed authorities in their field, information on self-help strategies that may assist members in gaining a sense of mastery over their illness, access to relevant resources available in the wider community, participation in speaking circuits to promote general community awareness and education, and encouragement for men to think and speak about their own prostate health.

In addition, the Group aims to promote awareness of issues relating to prostate cancer and the importance of early detection, both locally and nationally, by using print and electronic media, newsletters, pamphlets and word of mouth, by affiliating with other state and interstate prostate cancer support groups and supporting the national body (PCFA), and by encouraging prostate cancer patients and their families to join the Group.

Support

We aim to provide compassionate support to men diagnosed with prostate cancer, as well as their families and carers. Through monthly meetings, personal contact, and social activities, we create a welcoming environment that fosters understanding, connection, and a sense of wellbeing for everyone involved.

Education & Awareness

We educate and raise awareness by providing credible, up-to-date information from trusted professionals. Our goal is to empower members with self-help strategies, connect them to community resources, and encourage open conversations about prostate health through talks and public initiatives.

Community Engagement

We promote prostate cancer awareness locally and nationally through media, newsletters, and community outreach. By collaborating with other support groups and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), we help patients and families connect, share, and find support within our network.
